Is there a right and a wrong way to load a dumpster?
Surprisingly, yes there is a correct way to load a dumpster! And this is not just us being picky, but rather, these are basic rules that all dumpster rental services will ask you to comply by.
The first rule is to try to load the dumpster as evenly as possible. It may be convenient to constantly throw your junk into one side of the container, but please do your best to fill it as evenly as possible.
The second most important thing to remember is to follow the weight limit given on your particular dumpster! If the weight limit is not followed, you will be charged extra and even asked to remove some of the heavy items!
Besides weight, even if the materials are underneath the limit, the container cannot be filled to the very top. If items are overflowing over the top rim of the dumpster, most likely, you will be asked to remove the excess.
Another factor that you should consider, is if you have any items that will melt, spill, or leak (most likely a dumpster at a restaurant), you will need to line the inside of the container with something so it doesn’t ruin or make a mess out of your rental.
If you keep all of these factors in mind, you can prevent those additional charges!
Will I have to wait for my dumpster to arrive? Will I need to wait while it is being delivered?
Not at all! Unless your company specifies so, which is unlikely, you will not have to wait around at all. All you need to do is give your chosen rental company details about where to place it, how to get to your home/ building/ office etc. The only reason that you would have to be present for the delivery is if you felt that the location of your choice would be hard to describe over email or the telephone.
Ever wonder why dumpsters are categorized by yards?
Each dumpster size obviously holds a different amount of debris. This amount is measured in cubic yards. One cubic yard consists of a 3ft x 3ft cube, making sense as a yard is 3 feet. Our rental companies will offer 10, 20, 30 and 40 yard dumpsters. In a logical fashion, a 10 foot dumpster will hold 10 cubic yards, a 20 yard dumpster will hold 20 cubic yards, a 30 will hold 30 cubic yards, and a 40 will hold 40 cubic yards. If you still don’t understand the process, or would like to speak with someone about these different sizes, feel free to call your chosen rental service. They would be happy to assist you in either figuring out which size you need, or even a conversion from yards into feet for your convenience.
Is renting a dumpster expensive? What kind of prices am I looking at?
Renting a dumpster is not cheap! They are large items, and keep in mind that you are going to have to pay for the container as well as the delivery and pick-up. Besides just picking up the container, the rental company will also have to dispose of the waste in a local recycling center or landfill based on the contents! But while all of this may seem overwhelming, remember that the list of suggested rental companies in your area will be able to get you the most affordable price.
Do not expect to be able to open a dumpster rental website and find a list of prices; these prices will vary greatly depending on your project, size dumpster, how far you live from the closest landfill, and gas for the delivery trucks. There are a lot of variables that go into the process.
In order to find out the price for you haul, call your rental company; explain all of your needs and your address, and they will find exactly what you are looking for at the most reasonable price around.
What can I use a roll-off dumpster for? What about a commercial dumpster?
Roll-off dumpsters are ideal for household construction, debris removal, yard cleanouts, and small to medium sized projects. However roll-offs are not limited to merely yard work. Depending the on the size you rent, they can be used for demolition and reroofing projects as well. These are perfect containers for temporary use, with the rental period usually lasting around a week (however you can ask for it for longer).
On the other hand you have your commercial dumpster. These are more permanent types that can be found regularly sitting behind all restaurants and stores. Rather than being a drop-off and pick-up type of deal, they are located permanently in a specific location. However, if they are on a street or public area, you are going to need a permit. These commercial dumpsters are scheduled for daily, weekly, or monthly trash removals; leaving the container behind.
